I brought Seyval grapes in yesterday and today we start our season harvesting and making wine. Caleb, my son is raking the grapes into the destemmer/crusher machine….where it will travel to Natalie. While it fills the Europress (bladder press) Natalie will sprinkle rice hulls on top inside to help squeeze the juice out of the grapes. The Europress will take three hours to squeeze all the juice out. When the pan underneath gets full….we pump the juice into the barrels and start adding wine yeast, sugar etc….to start fermenting.
